From the FXWW Chatroom – Highlighted yesterday in the chats the Australian Political situation in focus – Danger for Aud coming from the Wentworth by election on Saturday. Wentworth is the former seat of Malcolm Turnbull whose support of his own candidate is best seen as lukewarm. Turnbull’s son Alex has called on the electorate to support independent Kerryn Phelps over Liberal party candidate Dave Sharma. Reported internal Liberal party polling leaked to News Ltd showed Phelps was ahead of Sharma by 55 per cent to 45 cent. Much will depend on the independents and on second preferences Greens are preferencing Labor and Labor is preferencing Phelps. If the government is reduced to 74 MPs on the floor of the House, it can either move Tony Smith out of the Speaker’s chair to restore its majority and offer the speakership to a crossbencher, or govern with the support of one of the conservative crossbenchers. Scott Morrison advising today that the preference if the seat is lost then they will not move the speaker and will rule with a minority government.
