From the FXWW Chatroom: Initial unemployment claims -10k to 265k in Dec 24 week, as
expected. There were 10 states estimated, eight by the states themselves,
and two by Labor. The Monday holiday may have impacted the reporting
period, but a high number of estimates does not always suggest that the
headline number is due for a massive revision next week. Unadjusted
claims +24,915 vs +37,945 expected. There were no special factors cited
by Labor. The 4-week moving average fell by 750, but would rebound by
1,750 next week if the headline number is unchanged. Continuing claims
+63,000 to 2.102m in Dec 17 employment survey week. Both unadjusted
initial claims and unadjusted continuing claims remain below their
year-ago levels, a sign of improvement.
